Basically, the word ‘MMORPG’ is a mixture of MMO and RPG. And speaking of MMORPG, we cannot ignore MMO or MMOG, which means Massively Multiplayer Online Game, while MMORPG is just one of its many branches. MMO really offers the world’s video game players a platform where numerous players can play with each other at exactly the same time with the help of Internet. And MMOGs are not limited in the personal computer platform anymore, instead, players now can play those fantastic games on PSP, Apple products like iphone, itouch or ipad, and other devices such as PlayStation, Wii and Xbox 360, et al. That’s to say, players can have multiple accesses to play MMO games or MMORPG. And, RPG stands for Role-Playing Game. You act as a certain character and control all the actions in order to win out the whole gameplay, which based on a certain virtual story.
Therefore, MMORPG is the acronym of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, in which players take control of their chosen characters’ actions and work or fight with other players in the online virtual world. Besides, the game will still move on and evolve, even after the players have left the game. But, we need to figure out one problem, are MMO game and browser game the SAME? Well, not really. I mean, yup, MMOG IS played on the internet, but not exactly in the browser. As far as I’m concerned, most of the time, you need to download a little package and install the clients. Then every time you want to play, you just click the Shortcut to enter; while the browser game is actually played on the browser, just like a lot of flash games, and oh, all the games on Facebook.com can be classified as browser game. More easily and more convenient, but I must say, the graphics of artwork, the real-time environmental movement, and the depth of gameplay of most browser games cannot be taken rank with those staff of MMOG, or MMORPG.
